| "hoi
pol-loi" - Pronunciation: "hoi-p&-'loi - Etymology: the many: the general
populace: the unwashed masses
Hoi Pol Loi has it's roots in the Amsterdam trance scene. Started in 2001 by a group of
friends who wanted to put something back into the local scene, it grew into one of
Amsterdam's most respected regular nights, featuring some of the finest UK psytrance dj's,
John Phantasm, Shakta, Dick Trevor and Mick Chaos to name a few, as guests; backed up by
it's residents and the cream of the local talent. One of the residents and organisers, Tom
(DJ Lurk), has recently moved to Bristol, and, along with his partner Fia (DJ Aurora), has
decided to get Hoi Pol Loi off the ground here in his west country homeland. Both Lurk and
Aurora represent record labels and have played around the world supporting some of the
biggest names around. Our old friend from Amsterdam, Goose, will be running the 2nd room.
The music comes first. Hoi Pol Loi aims to provide a good representation of all forms
of psytrance in the main room; from full on night time growlers to smooth progressive
grooves, and everything in between. In the second room we also have an eclectic music
policy; expect to find dub, ambient, electro, chilled breaks and maybe even a bit of
progressive trance to have wiggle to. To back this up, we only use the finest sound
systems to give the music the clarity and power it deserves. We fully believe in bringing
something a bit different to the local scene, which is why, as good as they are, we don't
over rely on local dj's. On top of all this, be prepared for some of the finest fluro art
and lighting effects to provide a feast for the eyes.
Believe it or not, (probably not after all this bullshit ;-) we don't like to take
ourselves too seriously either. You won't find any yogurt weaving workshops at our
parties! Our motto is simple, and cliched: have a good time... all the time ;-)
If you think you have something to offer our parties, especially if you do deco,
lighting or projections, please get in touch with us and show us what you can do :)
